When Oddstory Brewing Co. opened in 2016, they didn’t know what their journey would look like and where it would take them. Because of the incredible community in Chattanooga and lots of hard work, their dream turned into a thriving business filled with friends who feel like family.
Facing challenges with their branding and packaging, the team reached out to Shiift for guidance and direction, and of course design too. With long and short term goals in mind, we took a deep dive into what the market currently looks like, the reasons why Oddstory was created, and what makes them unique. Oddstory is more than just beer, they pour you an experience in a glass (or hand it to you in a can!), inviting you into their story and giving you a place to share yours. With this at the forefront of their mission, we formed a strategic creative direction, shaped the existing brand assets, and the new tagline was poured: 'Drink ours. Tell yours'.
For the packaging, it was crucial to design a cohesive design system which stands out on any shelf as well as being a sustainable and flexible so the in-house team can continue to use and apply to new beers and merch as they are released. We designed a base template to flex across three product sizes along with seven illustrated patterns and two flagship can designs. Each pattern was designed to capture the experience of the beer: highlighting the individual characteristics and complexity before you’ve even had a sip. The packaging system allows for the team to turnaround a design that fits within the collection, confidently, in just 30 minutes.
Everything was packaged up into a set of brand guidelines for Oddstory to feel clear and united in the creative direction of the brewery going forward. Plus they can start showing off their new packing for the cans, tap handles, and mural in the Brewery straight away! Cheers!
